UNDER THE HOOD

2021-11-12

When a large number of pre-packed goods need to be shipped from A to B, transport on pallets is the method of choice in most cases. Depending on the fragility, shape and quantity of products there are various securing options for protection and stability: paper or friction mats between the individual layers and connections established by spot gluing, trays, fishnets, and pallet frames, rubber bands, loops, shrink film wraps or stretch film – there are many options available.

120 PALLETS PER HOUR

Recently, global player Miele in cooperation with packaging company MSK came up with a new packaging solution for transporting vacuum cleaners. Instead of the stretch-wrap technique used so far, a new stretch-hood machine was installed for more stability at Miele’s Bielefeld site. Tensiontech is the name of the MSK plant and it produces custom-made film hoods to secure the shipment using a stretch process. The high-gloss printed cartons can be stacked as high as 2.80 m and are then safely packaged for transport with 50µm film. The new machine designed to process up to 120 pallets per hour is said to use thinner films thereby improving the environmental impact of the application.
